Getting to know ig’s new Managing Director

We’re excited to welcome Christian Thing as Managing Director at ig. Christian brings deep expertise in leadership and organisational development, honed over 15 years of working with individuals, teams, and businesses to maximise performance.

But what makes him tick? We sat down with him to find out.

What first sparked your interest in leadership and psychology?

I’ve always been fascinated by what makes people perform at their best. At school, I saw talented athletes fall short while others, with the right mindset, excelled. That got me interested in psychology and how individuals and teams develop resilience, focus, and high performance.

You spent 13 years at Lane4 and 2 years at Will It Make The Boat Go Faster?. What did you take from those experiences?

Lane4 gave me an incredible foundation in performance psychology and leadership development. It was all about working deeply with teams – understanding what makes them tick, how they interact, and what drives results.

Then at Will It, I saw what real efficiency and clarity looked like. It was fast, focused, and relentlessly results-driven. The combination of both approaches shaped how I think about leadership and team dynamics today.

What drew you to ig?

ig has this incredible ability to articulate what they do in a way that’s both clear and meaningful. There’s a real opportunity here to scale impact – to take leadership teams beyond that first engagement and help embed long-term change across their organisations. That’s what excites me: working with teams to create meaningful shifts in performance and culture.

What kind of leader are you?

Highly collaborative, but with a sharp focus on impact. I believe in getting the best out of others and holding the team accountable to follow through on big ambitions. I thrive on being back in the room with teams, getting hands-on with the work, and ensuring leadership development isn’t just theoretical – it actually moves the needle.

And outside of work?

I’m about to become a dad for the second time, so life is about to get a little busier! I’ve always been a big sports fan – rugby, in particular. And I’m always up for an adventure, though these days that looks more like chasing after toddlers than climbing mountains.

Final thoughts?

I’m joining at an exciting time. ig is doing fantastic work, and I can’t wait to help shape what comes next. Looking forward to getting stuck in!
